About the Convention

About

White River Buddhist Temple is a Jodo Shinshu religious institution and community resource for the Auburn valley area, that strives to share the teachings of the Buddha, to practice the everyday Dharma, and to embrace an inclusive and diverse sangha.

Founded in the early 1900s, the temple was founded by Japanese immigrants who followed the Jodo Shinshu faith founded by Shinran Shonin. Over the years the temple has evolved to include people with a variety of ethnicities and cultures.

The Annual Northwest District Buddhist Convention is an annual event dedicated toward bringing together hundreds of members and friends from across Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and California for an event that touches on timely issues and the perspective that Buddhism brings to the table.

Our theme is Connections: Building for Tomorrow, where we hope to explore the historical interdependence in our community, as well as how we can foster relationships in the future.
